Two flatmates decide to write a thriller set in the small fishing village of Ngawi together. Only time, a lack of sleep and talent and a excess of lust stand in their way...
Directed by Carol Dee
A comedy about the creative process and trying to make deadlines when writing partners have diametrically opposed ideas about what the film should. He is a 'real' writer and wants a gritty social-realist drama about life in a small fishing village, she is young and smart and sees it more as a commercially viable splatter-fest.
Originally written for the stage, the radio version included scenes from the films being written on the fly. This was my first full length piece of any kind and I was unconsciously exploring the conflict between two types of Kiwi film - the arty low budget drama (like Vigil) and the trashy low budget horror (like Brain dead). I have since written one of each!
